From USA Gymnastics:
On Monday during the World Team Selection Camp, Mackenzie Caquatto of Naperville, Ill./Legacy Elite, sustained a bi-lateral ankle sprain from a low landing on a balance beam dismount. She is responding well to treatment, according to Larry Nassar, the women’s team physician. The training camp is being held at the USA Gymnastics National Team Training Center at the Karolyi Ranch, an official Olympic Training Site, in Huntsville, Texas. The U.S. Women’s Teams for the 2011 World Championships and Pan American Games are expected to be announced later this evening.
Caquatto, who most pundits agree would have been on the World team had she remained healthy, has received an outpouring of support on Twitter. Her plan, originally to take online courses at the University of Florida this semester while training in Illinois, may now change. Caquatto deferred last fall semester in order to go to the World Championships and has only done one full semester on campus at the university.
The good news is that an ankle sprain should not cause her to miss any of the 2011-2012 college season.
