Teen Mom star Maci Bookout appeared on The Doctors yesterday, Dec. 12. She was there to discuss a mystery illness that plagued her this past August and left her in what she described as more pain than childbirth.
In a taped clip, Bookout explained she was having a lot of pain in her stomach and back, so she looked her symptoms up on the internet. She finally went to see a doctor, who gave her an antibiotics shot and a steroid shot. Once she was back at home, her fever spiked, and she vomited so much she couldn’t even keep an ice cube down. She tweeted about it, and her “mystery illness” was soon all over the internet.
On the show, Maci told Dr. Travis Stork and Dr. Rachael Ross that after a CT scan and more testing, she was ultimately diagnosed with a kidney infection. The group continued to discuss Bookout’s symptoms, and she explained she would rather have had eight kids at once – it even hurt for her shirt to touch her skin. Stork used Bookout as an example to demonstrate that the kidneys sit in the lower back, beneath the rib cage. He went on to explain that kidney infections generally start lower, as urinary tract infections, but when they travel to the kidneys, they become kidney infections. Stork stressed that if viewers at home experience any of Maci’s symptoms, they should see a doctor right away.
Bookout is now healthy and a part of “Dare to Dance,” which raises money for The Kidney Foundation of the Greater Chattanooga Area. She dispelled rumors that she has reunited with her son Bentley’s father, Ryan, explaining that the two of them are co-parenting and friends, but that is all.
