"Were also found to 'have Bibles when they were detained'..."
Fifties crooner Neil Sedaka once soothed the brokenhearted with the melodic refrain of Breaking Up Is Hard to Do. But in all fairness to Sedaka, he never met North Korea's teeny-tiny tyrant who has reportedly executed his former girl friend by firing squad, as reported by The Telegraph (of London, England) on Aug. 29, 2013.
Hyon Song-wol , former pop icon in the propagated Workers' Paradise of North Korea, met her demise in a hail of machine-gun fire as she and eleven other singers and musicians found their backs to the wall after being found guilty of violating Democratic People's Republic pornography laws.
The munchkin-sized martinet's version of the Department of Justice found the twelve, all either singers, musicians or dancers with Hyon's Unhasu Orchestra or the Wanghaesan Light Music Band, guilty of making videos of themselves performing sex acts and then selling the recordings.
The condemned were initially arrested Aug. 17, 2013 and executed three days later.
The family members of the convicted were forced to personally witness the executions, then per North Korean law, all were promptly shipped off to one of the many infamous North Korean gulags, themselves being guilty of the regime's so-called "Guilt by Association" law.
As cited by The Telegraph, some of the entertainers were also found to "have Bibles when they were detained," effectively guaranteeing them at least a lengthy stint in prison, if not immediate execution.
What A Tangled Web We Weave...
It has been widely rumored that Hyon was Kim's longtime mistress, but once he ascended to power he had to place his paramour aside and take a wife.
Hyon also moved on with her life, married an army officer and had a child by him.
Yet the rumors persisted that she continued to carry on her dalliance with the diminutive dictator.
Kim's wife, Ri Sol-ju, was also a member of the Unhasu Orchestra before marriage.
As speculated by some, Ri very much took personal the continuing public popularity of her husband's former girlfriend.
It's Got A Good Beat And I Can Dance To It...
Hyon produced a sting of hits for the proletariat masses, to include:
- "A Girl In The Saddle Of A Steed"
- "Footsteps of Soldiers"
- "I Love Pyongyang"
- "She is a Discharged Soldier"
- "We are Troops of the Party"
Her popularity peaked in 2005 with the song "Excellent Horse-Like Lady."
More Kims Than A Valley Girl Sorority...
No stranger to unique methods of executing those who may have displeased him, Kim Jong-un ensured the death of Kim Chol, Vice Minister of the Army, who was dispatched with a mortar round in October 2012.
Kim Chol was reportedly executed for "drinking and carousing" during the official mourning period after the death of the current dictator's father, Kim Jong-il.
On the explicit orders of Kim Jong-un to leave "no trace of him behind, down to his hair," Kim Chol was forced to stand on a spot that had been zeroed in for a mortar round and "obliterated."
