Machin wins multiple medals at CIS Track and Field Championships

According to the Canadian Interuniversity Sport website, Rachel Machin, a fourth year science student from the University of Calgary won two medals at the 2014 Canadian Interuniversity Sport Track and Field Championships that concluded Saturday from the University of Alberta in Edmonton.

Machin's first medal came Thursday in the women's pentathlon where she won the gold medal. Machin posted a score of 4165 points. She had the fastest time in the 60m hurdles (8.72 seconds), the best high jump (1.83 metres), and the best high jump (5.84 metres). The University of Calgary's Rachael McIntosh won the women's pentathlon silver medal after posting a score of 4063 points. McIntosh had the best shot put of 12.68 metres and was the fastest in the women's 800m at 2:14.82.

Machin's other medal came on Saturday in the women's high jump, where she jumped 1.76 metres to win the bronze medal. Emma Nuttall of Trinity Western University set a Canadian Interuniversity Sport championship record by jumping 1.88 metres.

The University of Calgary's other medal came on Friday in the women's pole vault, where Kim Stephenson jumped 3.9 metres to win the bronze medal. She placed behind gold medalist Robin Bone of the University of Western and silver medalist Gabriella Duclos-Lasnier of the University of Sherbrooke.

Machin, McIntosh and Stephenson are all from Calgary.
