"Machete Kills" may be closer than you think. Bloody Disgusting quotes star Danny Trejo: "I asked him [writer/director Robert Rodriguez] when he was going to write it and he says it's written, so we can get started pretty quick."
The actor made the revelation during a red carpet Q&A in Los Angeles.
Trejo admits to being blown away by the ultra-violent "Machete's" reception.
"We went all over the world with that movie and people kept having me sign these Machete action figures, it was a lot of fun," he told BD. "I don't even think Robert Rodriguez even expected that reception and now everyone is waiting for Machete 2 so hurry up Robert Rodriguez!"
The title for the sequel is pre-ordained. The original, "fake" trailer for "Machete" in the Tarantino/Rodriguez doubleheader "Grindhouse" refers to the "Machete" sequels "Machete Kills" and "Machete Kills Again."
"Machete" received mixed reviews, but did respectable box office. Some conservative factions objected to its stance on the hot-button topic of illegal immigration, and some white nationalist groups actually attempted ultimately half-hearted protests.
