‘Machete Kills’ gets release date

Open Road Films has announced that “Machete Kills,” the 1st of two planned sequels to the campy actioner “Machete,” will be released on September 13, 2013.

Danny Trejo returns as ex-Federale Machete, who uses his trademark machete to slice and dice his way through legions of bad guys. Michelle Rodriguez, Sofia Vergara, Amber Heard, Charlie Sheen, Lady Gaga, Antonio Banderas, Jessica Alba, Demián Bichir, Alexa Vega, Vanessa Hudgens, Cuba Gooding, Jr., William Sadler, Marko Zaror and Mel Gibson also star.

Directed by Robert Rodriguez from a screenplay by Kyle Ward and based on a story by Marcel Rodriguez and Robert Rodríguez, “Machete Kills” is the sequel to the 2010 hit film “Machete” - which has built a devoted legion of fans since its release - and is the second film in a planned trilogy.

According to a press release distributed by Open Road: “In ‘Machete Kills,’ Danny Trejo returns as ex-Federale agent ‘Machete,’ who is recruited by the President of the United States for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man - he must take down a madman revolutionary and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war and anarchy across the planet.”

Sounds serious.
