Fans of Robert Rodriguez who have been anxiously awaiting the release of "Machete Kills," the sequel to the very fun 2010 movie "Machete," received good news this week. Dread Central reported on Jan. 15 that the movie has received a release date of Sept. 13, 2013.
Originally, the film was on a slippery slope, as Rodriguez was ready to set a release date but a lawsuit and behind-the-scenes drama threatened to kill the entire movie. Overnight Productions wanted to break their ties with Rodriguez and his personal Quick Draw Productions. They then went to court and tried to block the release of "Machete Kills."
Overnight Productions said they never received the Texas tax credit information from Rodriguez and that there was also disputes over their producer's fee. The company wanted to strip Rodriguez of the right to make the sequel, which was already underway.
Luckily, things between the companies worked itself out and Open Roads will release the film.
"Machete Kills" continues the story of Danny Trejo's ex-Mexican Federale. In this movie the U.S. President hires Machete to take down a revolutionary and an arms dealer. Also starring in the film are Michelle Rodriguez, Sofia Vergara, Amber Heard, Lady Gaga, Antonio Banderas, Jessica Alba, Demián Bichir, Alexa Vega, Vanessa Hudgens, Cuba Gooding, Jr., William Sadler, Marko Zaror, Mel Gibson and Charlie Sheen as the President of the United States.
