This news actually came out a couple of years ago, but I wanted to be sure that anyone and everyone heard about this! Researchers at Penn State actually did a controlled study and found out that macadamia nuts are good for you! Specifically, they are good for your heart.
Well, I think roses and macadamia nuts would be good thing for Mother’s Day. You can always get the chocolate covered ones if you must have chocolate. Now that Hershey has bought Maunaloa Macadamia Nuts those chocolate-covered guys should be even better than ever!
According to the Honolulu Star Bulletin, this discovery was one that researchers at the University of Hawaii have known about for years. The “discovery” of the lowering of cholesterol levels comes as no surprise to our local scientists. I like it when people say something I really like is actually good for me. Can you imagine?
The macadamia nuts are good for your digestive system because they are high in fiber and the B vitamins and, like all nuts, they are high in antioxidants. The only small drawback with these is that they are high in fat and, even though it's the good kind of fat, I would recommend eating no more than about 40 nuts a week. I'm very bad at following my own advice. Just don't overdo. Your stomach will tell you, I've found that out too.
These nuts are high in fat but if you're dieting or fasting, for whatever reason, chances are that your fat-containing food intake has already been decreased anyway. The macadamias are better for you plain but getting them fresh from the tree can often be more difficult, although not impossible. Just check the label. You won't lose the flavor, just the added oils and salt.
