MAC baseball tournament has new home

The Mid-American Conference announced on Thursday that it has come to an agreement with a new host site for the league's baseball championship. Commissioner Jon Steinbrecher's office revealed that the tournament will be moving north to All Pro Freight Stadium in Avon, Ohio, leaving behind V.A. Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio, which had hosted the tournament since 2008.

In addition to moving closer to the league's headquarters in Cleveland, the move puts the tournament in a larger, more contemporary venue. V.A. Memorial Stadium, home of the Chillicothe Paints (Prospect League), was originally built back in 1955 (with renovations done in 1993 and 2006) as a ballfield for patients of the neighboring V.A. Hospital. It has a capacity of 3,000. By contrast, All Pro Freight Stadium opened just two years ago. The 5,000-person capacity stadium is home to the Lake Erie Crushers (Frontier League) and the Cleveland State Vikings. Both stadiums are fitted with artificial turf.
