M15 preview: Sliver Hive

Day two of the official DailyMTG.com Magic 2015 previews are starting to slowly come in. One card that has made it's presence known is this new land:

Sliver Hive
Land
Tap: Add 1 to your mana pool.
Tap: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool. Spend this mana only to cast a Sliver Spell.
5, Tap: Put a 1/1 colorless Sliver creature token onto the battlefield. Activate this ability only if you control a Sliver.

So what do you think, folks? How would this have done if it were printed in M14? This card says a lot about the upcoming set. There is a good chance that the Slivers in this set will be much stronger and have a greater impact on the game. One thing is for sure, this card will be a favorite for those who like to play Slivers in their Commander decks.

Rumor had it that there was going to be a new Sliver lord in M15. However things have yet to be confirmed. Sliver Hive's ability to make 1/1 Sliver creature tokens may be a key clue in confirming that rumor though. Having the Sliver lord would be a great compliment for the 1/1's running around the battlefield.

Five mana to activate the ability seems rather high. However, if you know your past Magic cards, then you should know that the original "The Hive" not only cost five mana to play the spell, but the ability cost five mana to activate as well. This card seems like the perfect tribute to a classic card.

Now that Slivers will be making their presence known again in this core set, will you give it another shot in Standard? Or will you have to wait and see what else comes out of M15? Sound off below, and if you're on Twitter, don't forget to use the hashtag #MTGM15.

Magic 2015 will have its pre-release July 12-13. M15 will be legal for Standard play starting July 18. Game day for M15 will be on August 9-10. The official hashtag is #MTGM15.
