Here is another card previewed via the DailyMTG.com website this morning. This one brings backs an old, but favorable mechanic that is still being used in the Modern format today.
Return to the Ranks
Convoke (Your creatures can help cast this spell. Each creature you tap while casting this spell pays for 1 or one mana of that creature's color.)
Return X target creature cards with converted mana cost 2 or less from your graveyard to the battlefield.
With the popularity of graveyard based decks and dredge decks in Standard, this will definitely have a home when the set is released. Also, who knows what else Magic 2015 has to offer in regards to creatures with a casting cost of two or less. Remember, one of the cards being reprinted is Ornithopter.
In addition, in a format where Lotleth Troll exists, can you imagine dumping your hand of creatures to pump up your troll then having the possibility of bringing them all back and onto the battlefield the next turn? It's still very early, but there is a good chance that this card will be broken.
In the article where the card was previewed, by Mark Rosewater, he said that he felt that the mechanic "convoke" worked "so well that it would be back one day." The article also talks about how white is the color of "armies." The color is known for its large number of creatures, and smalls ones to add. So it made sense for a card like Return to the Ranks to be made.
What do you think of the new reanimator spell? Do you feel it's a powerful spell? Or does it fall short of people's expectations? Magic 2015 will have its prerelease July 12-13. M15 will be legal for Standard play starting July 18. Game day for M15 will be on August 9-10. The official hashtag is #MTGM15.
