M.G. Martin releases One for None on Tues Aug 17

Hurry, before he flies away! Photo: Timothy Faust.

Most of you know I'm really nice to people, especially people who read my scribblin's. But buy M.G. Martin's first ever book, One for None, and get him to sign it before he is totally famous, or I will call you an idiot!

I probably wouldn't actually do this; I'm making this threat so you go out on Tuesday Aug 17th to the Space Gallery and get a copy. See how that works? I'm trying to be nice to you.

I have a copy. It's beautiful and fresh off the fresh new press, Ink. Publishing and Design, which has also printed Pam Benjamin's book The Pigeon Chronicles (that will be for sale, as well) and includes some of the pieces M.G. has performed live at Brainwash, the corner, Viracocha, and Quiet Lightning—certainly some of the most unforgettable performances I have ever seen.

I probably don't need to tell you how talented M.G. is—especially if you've seen him perform. But have you read his writing? Truth is, most of M.G.'s penmanship was not created for performance. To flip through One for None is to glimpse the creative genius in a staggering variety of forms. Every next piece will blow your mind. Do you know how much I love—and owe—Nietzsche? This book, by M.G. Martin, is like the poetry version of Neitzsche's aphorisms. Each one is self-sufficient, but to read them consecutively is to look down and see your feet on the edge of a precipice. It is intimidating to hold despite its convenient size and welcoming cover art.

As if M.G. were not enough reason to do just about anything (would you jump? will you continue?), he has lined up some incredible support to celebrate the release of what truly is a remarkable first collection. Here are 5 more reasons to go:

That's it. That's all I'm going to say. Don't make me call you an idiot.

Here are some things that I've witnessed

and I'm here to testify

Oh, and I'm really proud of how this has happened

Favorite? Hell yes.

But you should have seen the pieces M.G. submitted for QL8.

We turned him down against our own wishes

to avoid the favorite thing.

7x in a row is enough, right?

He is one of three.

But if you could see it

and i hope you do

it would make you weep

to know

sometimes

the best submissions

are never read.
