Lynette 'Squeaky' Fromme released from prison video interview

Lynette Squeaky Fromme released from prison

Lynette ‘Squeaky’ Fromme has been released from a Texas prison this morning. Fromme had been convicted of the 1975 attempted assassination of then U.S. President Gerald Ford. Lynette ‘Squeaky’ Fromme had served 34 years in prison, and came to notoriety, not only for the attempted assassination attempt, but also for her association with cult leader, Charles Manson.

Born in Santa Monica, California, Lynette Fromme was a child entertainer and dancer, and had several appearances on the Lawrence Welk Show. She had even performed at the white House. Her teen years took a turn when she began experimenting with drugs and alcohol, eventually dropping out of junior college after only two years. Destitute, alone and homeless, Lynette Fromme was the perfect candidate to find solace in the pseudo family culture founded by Charles Manson. She joined Charles Manson’s cult in 1967, just two years before the Tate/LaBianca murders would change the face of the Hippie love culture, and a nation forever.

It was, however, on September 5, 1975 that Lynette Fromme would claim her own piece of American criminal history. Dressed like a nun, only her outfit was red, Fromme arrived at Capitol Park, located in Sacramento, California, bearing a .45 Colt semi automatic pistol. Though there magazine was loaded, there were no rounds in the firing chamber. She pointed the pistol at President Ford, and was arrested, tried and convicted.

Throughout Lynette Fromme’s prison years she had several instances of violence. She was transferred in 1979 after a physical altercation erupted with another inmate. Fromme also briefly escaped from the Alderson Federal Prison Camp located in Alderson, West Virginia. It was reported that she was trying to see Charles Manson again. Today, Lynette Squeaky Fromme was released from the Federal Medical Center, Carswell located in Fort Worth, Texas. FMC Carswell is a Federal Bureau of Prisons facility that provides medical and mental health services to female offenders.
