On Monday, Chicago TV Examiner viewed an advanced screener of the second season premiere of ABC Family’s “The Lying Game” so that we can bring fans a few hints as to what to expect when the show returns in January.
[SPOILERS AHEAD]
The first season ended with Alec (Adrian Pasdar) being arrested for Derrick’s murder as the wedding guests watched in horror and confusion. Emma (Alexandra Chando) offered comfort to Thayer (Christian Alexander) while Ethan (Blair Redford) looked on. Meanwhile, Sutton (Chando) smugly watched it all unfold and then it was revealed that Rebecca (Charisma Carpenter) is the twins’ mother and Sutton has been working with her.
In the second season premiere, “The Revengers,” everyone has gathered at the courthouse for Alec’s bail hearing. Rebecca plays up her love for Alec to the reporters, but then she meets with Sutton in the ladies’ room and to discuss their plan. The two women have been working together for awhile, but their endgame as far as Emma is concerned is very different. For now, Rebecca convinces a reluctant Sutton to continue trying to be nice to her sister.
As for Emma, she’s working with Laurel (Allie Gonino) to get Ted (Andy Buckley) and Kristin (Helen Slater) back together, but Rebecca does not want to see that happen. Kristin is not exactly on board with it either and running into Rebecca around town does not help matters. But Emma might have bigger problems when she learns that someone else knows who she really is and this person warns her that there’s someone in her life who cannot be trusted.
Mads (Alice Greczyn) and Thayer are both having trouble accepting what happened to their father and the roles they played in his arrest. Alec pushes Thayer’s buttons and Mads lashes out a different way. But the most interesting part of the premiere comes in the last few minutes of the episode when a new, shocking secret is revealed.
“The Lying Game” begins its second season on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at 8:00 p.m. CST on ABC Family.
