Lycoming County Prison Facing Overcrowding, Considers Day Reporting Center

See also

With prison overcrowding becoming a serious problem, the Lycoming County Commissioners are looking at a day reporting center as a possible solution. Every year there are approximately 2,500 people committed to the Lycoming County Prison. More than 1% of the county’s population is incarcerated. In 2012 the county spent $330,000 to house inmates in other facilities outside of the county due to overcrowding. Currently a day reporting center is being considered as a viable option to lessen the overcrowding and high costs of incarceration (Williamsport Sun Gazette, 12/5/2013).
