"Luther" returns for another four episodes on BBC America in just a few weeks, and on Tuesday, Aug. 13, BBC America released a new trailer teasing what to expect.
When "Luther" returns, the detective is struggling to cope with his own demons, back under intense pressure with two conflicting crimes to investigate and a ruthless ex-cop determined to bring him down. However, there is some happiness in his life. Luther (Idris Elba) has a chance at love when he meets Mary Day (Sienna Guillory).
The first case involves a twisted fetishist targeting young women in the city, and while Luther thinks this killer is going to kill again, he's ordered to work on another case, the murder of an Internet tormenter. To complicate matters, his worst enemies turn out to be his colleagues, and they're determined to bring him down any way they can, including using his right-hand man, Detective Sergeant Ripley (Warren Brown) to do so. Will this tear apart the partnership they've built over the past two seasons?
That's not all, as Alice Morgan (Ruth Wilson) returns, and she's back for the detective she just can't let go of, as teased in the promo to the left. What will that mean for his relationship with Mary? Speaking of that, it looks like his colleagues may do a pretty good job of ruining that before Alice even comes into the picture. If this preview is anything to go by, these next four episodes will be just as exciting, dark, twisted, exciting, compelling, and completely addictive as the previous ones were. Plus don't forget to check out the slideshow for the promotional photos that have been released by BBC America.
Elba has said about these four episodes, "He’s gone through a lot of trauma. Each time you go through anything bad in your life, it makes you a bit more reflective, and it definitely scars you in some way – in this series he’s looking for peace. But a lot happens in this season…I don’t know where it’s going to leave Luther. He’s not a fragile man, but he might end up becoming fragile after what he goes through. This series is very much about Luther trying to change his life and get to the finish line." Will Luther succeed? Where will the end of the third installment of the miniseries find the detective?
"Luther's" third installment airs Sept. 3-6 at 10 p.m. on BBC America. What do you think of the photos and trailer? Will you be watching?
