Lupita Nyong’o is Hollywood's new 'it' girl: Actress lands first Vogue cover

Lupita Nyong’o is still flying high after winning an Oscar back in March for her stellar performance in “12 Years a Slave.” If that wasn’t enough, the highly toted actress has joined the cast of “Star Wars: Episode VII.” In what has already been a great year, Nyong’o has scored her first Vogue cover. The announcement of her landing the cover of the July 2014 issue of the magazine was made on Thursday via social media.

A Yale University graduate, Nyong’o has had to get use to her rise in fame pretty quick. Still humble, the actress never realized her success until someone recognized her publicly on the cover of another magazine. That was the first moment she realized she would no longer be lost in anonymity. She also joked about her fame when the tabloids were reporting a blossoming romance between her and actor/singer Jared Leto.

Nyong’o is definitely the “it” girl in Hollywood and a role model to anyone who once struggled with loving themselves. In the issue she talks about the fame and how it has changed her life. She says, “It just feels like the entertainment industry exploded into my life. People who seemed so distant all of a sudden were right in front of me and recognizing me – before I recognized them!”

She says she first realized the sudden change in her life after the SAG Awards in January, when the paparazzi cluttered around her at the airport. She looked around to see whom they were flashing and realized they were flashing at her. But her humility still takes the stage, even during her most accomplished moments. As winning an Oscar brightened her spotlight even more, she says, “I had already gotten the nomination, which was truly, truly astounding, and enough. Even in my dreams of being an actor, my dream was not in the celebrity. My dream was in the work that I wanted to do.”

Admired, talented and beautiful both externally and internally, Nyong’o is just taking off in her already successful career. People’s “Most Beautiful” person is endorsing a cosmetic line, has already graced the cover of most of the top magazines, but most importantly has become someone most people are looking forward to seeing on the big screen. For now, that beauty is being displayed on the cover of Vogue.
