According to TSN on Tuesday, the Vancouver Canucks traded Canadian Olympic gold medalist Roberto Luongo to the Florida Panthers.

Luongo is 19-16-6 with a 2.38 goals against average and three shutouts for the Canucks this season. He was traded with left wing prospect Steve Anthony, who currently has 11 points in 41 games with the Kalamazoo Wings of the East Coast Hockey League for goaltender Jacob Markstrom and centre Shawn Matthias.

Markstrom has played the majority of the season with the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League after finding himself behind Tim Thomas and Scott Clemmensen on the Panthers' depth chart. Matthias meanwhile is considered more of a checking line forward, who has nine goals and seven assists in 59 games.

This will be Luongo's second time in Florida, as he was with the Panthers from 2000-2006. Luongo was the starting goaltender for Canada in their gold meal run at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver and the backup for Carey Price at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.
