According to Harrison Mooney of Yahoo! Sports in a report posted on Saturday, Canadian Olympic gold medalist Roberto Luongo had his tires stolen off of his Mercedes sport utility vehicle in Florida this past Tuesday.
Luongo tweeted the photo of his wheelless car on his twitter account, https://twitter.com/strombone1, and sarcastically thanked the robbers for leaving him his car.
According to Gordon McIntyre of the Vancouver Province, the stolen tires were worth approximately just under $10,000.
Luongo, who currently plays for the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League, also has a home in Florida. While playing for the Florida Panthers from 2000-2006, Luongo met his future wife, Gina Cerbone, the daughter of a rich Italian restaurant owner.
As a goaltender, Luongo backstopped team Canada to an Olympic gold medal in men's hockey at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. He replaced Martin Brodeur during the tournament and went unbeaten in Canada's elimination games.
