Lunch picks: Ammon Pita Pit

Those looking for something a little less greasy than the typical burger-and-fries fast-food joint, but who want something slightly different than Subway would do their appetites well to check into Ammon’s Pita Pit. Set up much like a Subway or a Quiznos, the Pita Pit allows you to choose your own meat and from a veritable plethora of topping and sauce options. Instead of a sub roll, however, your sandwich is served in a pita pocket (your choice of white or wheat).

Menu choices include Breakfast pitas (each made with eggs, hashbrowns, green peppers, onions, and cheese – just choose your meat), Meat pitas, and Vegetarian pitas. The meat is grilled up in front of you, and then it is up to you to decide what toppings, cheeses, and sauces will complete your pita. Slightly more exotic than Subway (I don’t see them offering Hummus or Avocado as topping options), you can get a true taste of the Mediterranean if ordering the Gyro or Chicken Souvlaki pita. Don’t forget the feta cheese!

Prices are moderate for lunch: Vegetarian pitas range from $4.95 to 5.10, while meat pitas will set you back between 5.75 and 6.35. Add chips and a drink and you are looking at about $8 or so. The Pita Pit also serves smoothies, soups, and has a children’s menu.

Have a late lunch or want to pick up some pitas for dinner? The Pita Pit is currently running a special where all pitas after 3 pm are $4.99.
