Similar to many other well known upcoming rock and metal festivals this year, Lunatic Luau was headlined by Avenged Sevenfold. Avenged Sevenfold's set was loaded with pyro, and the flames were nothing less than a perfect fit for their opening song "Shepherd of Fire." Five Finger Death Punch also played on the main stage. Vocalist Ivan Moody preferred the element of water, initiating their set by spitting a fountain of water into the air. Additional bands on the Main Stage were: Volbeat, Pop Evil, Trivium and Sea of Souls.

Local Virginia band SiNN kicked off Lunatic Luau on a side stage as reward for winning a Battle of the Bands contest held by FM99. The secondary stage was sponsored by Fuzion Ink and went on to host: Killswitch Engage, Saliva, Adelitas Way, Devour The Day and Kyng. Even though the side stage was smaller in size, it certainly was not smaller in sound or energy. Adelitas Way kept security busy with crowd-surfers after vocalist Rick DeJesus announced he'd shake anyone's hand who made it to the front. Killswitch Engage put on a set so intense that even the crowd barrier was shaking under pressure.

Lunatic Luau is not part of the World's Loudest Month series, however the line up consisting of many of the same bands. The Luau still boasted a sizeable crowd - definitely a suitable alternative for those who couldn't make it out to one of the larger festivals.
