The Columbus, Ohio native was stopped by strikes only 44 seconds into the first round by Caio Magalhaes at the Amway Center in Orlando. The middleweight bout aired live on FOX Sports 1 on Saturday night.
After losing in the preliminary round on “TUF 7” in 2008, Zachrich went 6-1 on the regional circuit to earn his way back to the UFC. His one loss came in his lone Bellator fight in 2010.
Magalhaes came out very aggressive in the first round throwing wild hooks and was looking to quickly end the fight. Zachrich was holding his own until the Brazilian landed a left hook to the body that hurt Zachrich.
With Zachrich hut, Magalhaes quickly followed up with a knee to the body that dropped Zachrich. From there, Magalhaes started raining down heavy punches until ref John McCarthy stopped the fight.
Zachrich immediately protested the stoppage but Magalhaes was awarded the first-round TKO victory. It was only the second win in Magalhaes’ career by strikes.
Magalhaes has now won three straight fights since losing his UFC debut in 2012. Zachrich drops to 13-3 and his three-fight winning streak is over.
