Thursday, Jan. 30, Brooklyn's Luis Collazo (35-3) defeated Victor Ortiz (29-5-2) with a knockout in the second round. The bout was televised on Fox Sports 1 and was promoted by Golden Boy Promotions.

For Collazo, the victory boosts him further up the rankings and will likely provide him with another chance at a world title. Many boxing pundits are stating that Collazo's victory could put him in line for a match up against junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia (27-0). However, Garcia will first have to get past his upcoming battle with Mauricio Herrera (20-3) on March. 15 in Bayamon, PR.

Even more, Collazo, when asked who he would like to fight next, went on record calling out Floyd Maweather Jr., but will not likely get that mega fight without taking out one more notable titlist such as Danny Garcia, Marcos Maidana or Adrien Broner.

On the other hand, the loss for Ortiz is detrimental to his career and will likely lead to a push for his retirement. With throw straight losses coming by of stoppage, Ortiz's physical and mental toughness clearly has come into question and has led to much criticism as to whether he has the mental hygiene to continue in the sport of boxing.

In further action, Eddie Gomez (16-0) of the Bronx, NY pulled off a unanimous decision victory over Daquan Arnett (11-1) in a fight that featured two creditworthy undefeated fighters. Throughout the fight, Gomez landed powerful punches and sent Arnett to the canvas with a vicious bodyshot in the 7th round. Credit must be given to both fighters for taking on such tough opposition so early in their respective careers.

From a promotional standpoint, Golden Boy Promotions has done as significant job of putting on competitive cards at the Barclays Center and providing east coast fighters with the opportunity to get into the limelight. With Golden Boy's presence in the east coast market through their contractual obligation with the Barclays Center, fights fans can expect to see more east coast fighters performing on national stage.

In the end, the night was filled with action packed fights and allowed New York fight fans to view some of their top prospects perform on a big stage that could lead to an even greater stage. Only time will tell, but Collazo's impressive victory will surely lead to a significant fight opportunity in the near future.
