If you plan on tuning into the Billboard Music Awards this year, you might get treated to some "Southern Hospitality" when "The Potion" takes effect, making every attendee and viewer "Stand Up" and shake their "Money Maker".

That's because Atlanta-based MC-actor Ludacris is taking over the ceremony, which will take place on May 18 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and be broadcast on ABC, as announced by Dick Clark Productions, founded by the late New Year's Eve celebration and American Bandstand host, on May 14.

Performers include: Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Lopez, John Legend, Lorde and Carrie Underwood.

According to the report on MSN.com, via the Associated Press, many artists are nominated:

"Lorde and Imagine Dragons are the top contenders, competing in 12 categories. Imagine Dragons will battle Cyrus, Perry, Bruno Mars and Justin Timberlake, who is nominated for 11 awards, for top artist. Timberlake's "The 20/20 Experience" will compete against efforts from Beyonce, Eminem, Drake and Luke Bryan for top Billboard 200 album."

Some of these artists will "Roll Out" with the award for having "Number One Spot" on the magazine's charts.

The Billboard Music Awards were first given out in 1989 by the magazine, which was founded in 1894. From 2007 to 2010, the annual awards lay dormant, but returned in grand fashion in 2011. Billboard is published by Prometheus Global Media, a unit of Guggenheim Partners.

Ludacirs was born Christopher Brian Bridges in Champaign, Ill. on September 11, 1977, but moved to Atlanta at age nine. His debut album, Incognegro, was an independent release in 1999, largely helmed by producer Timbaland. He then signed to Def Jam Recordings and released Back for the First Time, which included some tracks from Incognegro, including the hits "Fat Rabbit" (produced by Timbaland) "What's Your Fantasy?" with label-mate Shawnna, and "Ho," and the Neptunes-produced hit "Southern Hospitality." From his follow-up, Word of Mouf, came the singles "Rollout (My Business)", "Area Codes", "Move B***h", and "Saturday (Oooh Oooh!)." He has released five albums since then, with a ninth called Ludaversal still in the works. Other hits include: "Stand Up"; "Slap"; "Splash Waterfalls"; "Number One Spot"; and "Get Back." Such songs have garnered three Grammy Awards and other honors, including Billboard nominations, for him.

Luda is also an accomplished actor, starring in the films 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003), Crash (2004), Gamer (2009), Fast Five (2011), New Year's Eve (2011), and Fast & Furious 6 (2013), among others, and guest starring on such TV shows as "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit" and "The Simpsons."

Columbia, SC, tune in and catch all the excitement on May 18 at 8 p.m. EST.

Welcome to the Ludaverse.
