Lucy Lawless sentenced to community service (Video)

Lucy Lawless and a group of other Greenpeace activists were sentenced to pay 651 New Zealand dollars ($547) to a port company and perform 120 hours of community service. Lucy Lawless' sentence comes after she previously plead guilty to trespassing charges.

Lawless, 44, is best known for her role on the hit television series, "Xena: Warrior Princess." When asked how she feels about the sentencing she said,

“I consider it a great victory that the court has struck down the reparation demand from Shell, which I think was absolutely ludicrous,”

Lawless and 7 other activists boarded an oil exploration ship at Port Taranaki last February,in attempt to prevent the vessel from leaving for exploration in the Arctic waters.

They were initially charged with burglary but later pleaded guilty to lesser charges of unlawfully boarding a ship.

Since the incident, sentencing was delayed several times because of the numerous negotiations with Shell.

Shell Todd Oil Services is seeking approximately $545,000 in reparations, but they have to pursue their claim in civil court the judge ruled.
