The doors open at 6:00 p.m., and Lucy Angel is kicking off their show at 7:00 p.m. followed by Anthony Smith and the Anaconda Cowboys, so make sure you get there good and early to get in or even better yet, buy your tickets online now so that you are sure you will get in doors as a full house is expected. I spoke to the lovely trio Lucy Angel today to talk about the show, the recent delivery of a very special angel and their plans for the future and this is what they had to say:

Q: Hi ladies, so good to get this chance to talk to you three. So you are performing at 3rd & Lindsley on March 13, 2013, you excited?

A: Answer in unison, “Oh yes.”

KATE: It is our first show after the baby and we are jumping back into it. It will be great to be back on stage.

Q: You’re obviously excited, Kate, you are a first time Grandma?

KATE: Yeah, yes.

Q: Are you enjoying her?

KATE: Oh my gosh, it is the most incredible experience and I know everybody has told me that but nothing can really prepare you for the instant love and I mean I am just crazy about this baby and she is exceptional.

Q: Did she look like her Mom did at birth?

KATE: Absolutely. She looks so much like her and there are a lot of family members that have commented on this and Lindsay and Emily looked a lot alike as babies so there is a resemblance to both actually.

Q: Well they look a lot alike now. The three of you look a lot alike.

KATE: Well, I will reserve that compliment for my girls.

Q: No. No. For people that don’t know you and that haven’t grown up with you and lived with you, you do look alike. Obviously you all look at each other and you all look different to each other but for other people looking in, my lord yes, you all resemble one another. I mean there are differences but you can tell you are family.

EMILY: Yeah.

KATE: Yeah, we do have a strong family resemblance. She definitely resembles her Mommy but I do see Anthony in her too.

Q: Kate, let me ask you, how did this trio happen?

KATE: Wow, it was sort of an evolution. Lindsay and I were a duo when we first came to Nashville and Emily was a huge fan and came to all our shows. I mean she has sung all of her life but she seemed to be reticent to actually get up on stage because she was a little shy.

EMILY: Well I sang when I was a kid and when I hit my kind of awkward teenage years and I just stopped and didn’t pick it back up until we moved to Nashville and we were here about a year or two and I mean I totally had the bug but I had been so adamant that I didn’t want to be a part of the group that it was really hard to finally come around and say, so I had to say it in the form of a text message of course.

KATE: She did. She text Lindsay to tell her and they both come to me with this serious look like we have something to talk to you about and I am like, okay. I mean I am thinking that something is really wrong and Lindsay goes, “Emily would like to sing background vocals for us.” And I go background vocals? So she kind of stepped in and her first show was in front of several thousand people.

EMILY: It has been the most amazing five or six years and being in the group with the two of them even though I sang when I was a kid I hadn’t been on stage like they had in a professional way ever so I had a lot of growing up to do and learning and I learned so much from them. Having them on stage with me sort of gave me this comfort to be able to kind of grow into this.

Q: Grow into and catch up?

EMILY: And I literally did. I started at the back of the stage and I moved my way up to the front.

Q: And I am going to ask Kate, what is the age difference between your girls?

KATE: They are six years apart. There is a boy in between the two of them.

Q: How many children do you have?

KATE: I have four, a boy in between them and then a boy younger than Emily.

Q: Kate, where did the name Lucy Angel come from?

KATE: The name was a hard thing to come up with. We had several names that just would not stick. We were doing a photo shoot and kind of a World War II motif at one of our shoots and my father was in the military so I am an army brat and we kind of came up with the Lucy Angel as a nod to the nose art on the World War II bombers. It’s kind of my history and so the name just kind of stuck.

Q: I actually thought it might have had something to do with Lucille Ball?

KATE: Oh you know I mean there are so many things I love about it. I am a Beatles fan so it’s Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds and I love that song and Lucille Ball is totally one of my favorites but it’s more to do with the military background.

Q: I was going to say it absolutely does fit you ladies and your image. You have released one CD?

KATE: Yeah, we have an EP that we have released and we are currently working on our second album that is due out this year.

Q: Okay and that is of course being produced by Anthony Smith.

KATE: Yes it is.

Q: Are you writing your material or are you getting it from elsewhere and that question is for Emily I guess.

EMIILY: It’s been really kind of a cool process this last year. We’ve taken a lot of time that we didn’t necessarily take with the EP. We just, we were kind of in a rush to record that because we were heading over to China so we didn’t write any of that material. But with the new project, we have really honed in on what kind of songs were best for our harmonies and we have co-written most of the stuff with Anthony who is brilliant. I think we’ve kind of found our niche and our sound and we are loving what we are doing in the studio. I can’t wait for the world to hear it.

Q: Right, that’s great and Lindsay I am assuming you are listening right?

LINDSAY: I am here. Just running around trying to get things done before CRS week begins.

Q: I hear there is going to be a film crew at the show that night taping for a Reality Show Pilot Kate?

KATE: Yes.

Q: What is the reality show going to be about?

KATE: Our family, the music and our journey.

Q: I understand that your son also helps with the music business in your family?

KATE: Yes he does and he is wonderful.

Q: So it really will be about your whole family?

KATE: Yes.

Q: Do you have a timeframe for the release of the CD and do you have a title and title cut for it yet?

LINDSAY: That hasn’t been decided yet but it should be released this summer.

Q: So the summer of 2013?

LINDSAY: Yes.

Q: Ladies, I am really looking to meeting you that night.

ALL: We are looking forward to meeting you too.

And with that we talked about babies, men, love, relationships, sound check, green rooms, family and the music business and if I tried to type all the things that were talked about today this would surely be a book and not an article. Suffice it to say, there will mostly likely be more interviews and lots more news and music from Lucy Angel. This Mom and daughter’s trio have that wonderful family harmony thing going on and this is simply a show that you do not want to miss. Then let’s add the cherry on top of this night with the hit songwriter/producer and all around great guy Anthony Smith taking the stage with the Anaconda Cowboys, a group of professional session and stage musicians to totally blow the roof off of 3rd & Lindsley. If you plan on only going to one show this year, this should be the show you attend.
