Lucky kitten up for adoption after being thrown from truck

On October 20, Lucky, a 5 week old kitten weighing less than a pound, was thrown out of the window of a moving truck. The driver didn’t stop, simply left the kitten for dead. This would most certainly have been the end for the little black ball of fluff had there not been a caring witness. A passer-by saw Lucky thrown from the truck near 43rd Avenue and Bell Road and contacted the Arizona Humane Society's Emergency Animal Medical Technicians. The Arizona Humane Society medical team rushed to the scene and took Lucky back to the Arizona Humane Society’s Second Chance Animal Hospital. As his name implies, he was a very lucky little fellow and remarkably received no serious injuries. That was not the end of his good fortune.

Regardless that Lucky had no broken bones or other serious injuries he was too small to be put up for adoption. He needed to add body weight and gain strength first. Hayley Wood from Phoenix, one of Arizona Humane Society’s regular foster parents, volunteered to foster the kitty. Ashliegh Goebel, media coordinator for the Arizona Humane Society, said;

“The kitten went home with Hayley where he'll be able to gain some more weight before eventually being adopted.” Goebel added, Wood "fell in love with this little kitty fluffy face."

Seven weeks later Lucky is ready to find his new forever home and the now 10 pound, 11-week-old black kitten is being put up for adoption. Lucky will be available for adoption on Thursday at 4:30 pm at Arizona Humane Society's Sunnyslope Shelter, 9226 N. 13th Ave., Phoenix. His adoption fee is $75, which includes neuter surgery, first vaccinations, free follow-up vet exam, identification tag and carrier.

Lucky’s new forever home will literally be the luck of the draw. Bretta Nelson, an Arizona Humane Society spokeswoman said

“Due to potential adopter interest in Lucky, AHS will host a drawing for his adoption.”

The drawing will take place at the Arizona Humane Society’s Sunnyslope Shelter at 4:30 pm. It might be advisable to arrive at the adoption event early to meet Lucky in person. Arizona Humane Society personnel will be available to answer any questions you may have regarding Lucky during shelter hours. The phone number for the Sunnyslope Shelter is 602-997-7585 extension 2045.
