‘Lucky 7’ canceled: What other new TV show should get the ax?

October 5, 2013

Lucky 7” canceled after only two episodes and only 12 days into the new fall TV season is no surprise. What new fall TV show should get the ax next? What would you pick? Other endangered titles are ABC’s “Trophy Wife,” CBS’ “We Are Men,” NBC’s “Ironside” and “Welcome to the Family” according to an Oct. 4, 2013, Entertainment Weekly report.

Usually, networks wait at least three weeks before cancelling new fall TV shows. This is about how long it takes to review data from Nielson. The cancelation of “Lucky 7,” however, did not even need a Nielsen rating to get the ax. “Lucky 7” premiered to 4.4 million viewers and a low 1.3 adults 18-49 rating last week, making it ABC’s lowest-rated drama premiere in years.

For its second episode on Tuesday night, the adult demo rating for “Lucky 7” fell to 0.7 and ranked as ABC’s lowest-rated show that evening. Next week, “Scandal” repeats will fill the canceled "Lucky 7" 10 p.m. time slot.

The cancelation of “Lucky 7,” which was a show about a group of gas station employees whose winning lottery ticket brought them millions of dollars and many more problems, was not unexpected. Pre-launch polling to “Lucky 7” had already indicated to ABC that the show was not one of the viewers’ favorites.

So which new fall TV show should get the ax?

According to Entertainment Weekly, Fox’s “Dads” won the poll as the next TV show to be cancelled after “Lucky 7.” However, since baseball preemptions will change the fall schedule, at least temporarily, “Dads” might survive; or will it?

  • "Marvel's Agents of SHIELD"
