Eddie Hearn, the promoter for two-time WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch, told MatchroomBoxing.com that his English pugilist may have an opportunity to battle middleweight titlist Lucian “Mister KO” Bute for his belt at a date and time to be established in the United Kingdom.
Last week Froch (28-2, 20 KOs) was officially named the mandatory challenger for Bute (30-0, 24 KOs).
"It is Carl's dream to have his next fight in the UK and that is something very important to both of us," said Hearn. "I believe we can bring Lucian here in May and we will be happy to give him the rematch in Canada once Carl has taken the IBF title from him."
Froch, whose last scrap was a decisive unanimous decision loss to Andre Ward (25-0, 13 KOs) in the finals of The Super Six World Boxing Classic December 17, took to Twitter to applaud the work of Hearn and express his excitement of the potential bout on his home soil for the IBF crown.
"Looks like my next one is gonna be for the IBF world title! Nice one Eddie Hearn,” tweeted Froch, 34, also a past British, Commonwealth and English titleholder. “More news to come on date & venue very soon. This one's in the UK! Get yourself over here. If you're allowed."
Bute, 31, a native of Romania who has long resided in Montreal, is a southpaw who has successfully defended his crown on nine consecutive occasions.
Michael D’Avirro was born and raised in Canada’s second-largest city and, like virtually all Canucks, he is an enormous fan of Bute’s.
“I’m a fan of Bute’s because he fights out of my town,” said D’Avirro, 28, who has lived in Brighton (Mass.) since he started taking classes at Boston University in 2002. “I’m glad to see he’s becoming more and more aggressive. He can knock out anybody.”
“Mister KO,” who is ranked by BoxRec as the preeminent super middleweight in the world, is an elite pugilist who possesses frightening power in both of his fists.
“Carl’s dream” will quickly become a nightmare when he steps into the squared circle against Lucian Bute in the near future.
