With opening night sneaking up on us on October 16, 2009, the $105-million Lucas County Arena and new home to the Toledo Walleye is starting to come together.  Everything is on right on track for the Walleye home opener against the Florida Everblades.

Arena project manager Timothy Meyer spoke to The Toledo Blade last month about the work in progress.  Meyer noted that the facility was 85-90% finished, ahead of schedule and under budget.  The building is set to be completed by August 15.

The arena, which is seeking a sponsor for naming rights, may become the first new LEED-certified professional sports arena in the United States.  The LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, program sets a standard for green buildings, rating facilities on a number of environmentally friendly criteria.

In addition to minor league hockey, the Lucas County Arena will host the Toledo Bullfrogs arenafootball2 team who are scheduled to begin play in the spring of 2010.  The venue has also partnered with SMG, a leader in venue management, to bring concerts and family entertainment to the area.

Two: Number of home teams

19: Width of seats in inches

20x30: Size in feet of the video-display board

22: Number of club suites

36: Number of games the Walleye will play at home each year

Do you know when the arena will be hiring?

  • Angie 2 years ago

    Hi Lisa,

I am not aware of any job listings posted yet. According to the Toledo Walleye Twitter account, jobs will be posted on the arena's official site or the Walleye official site. You can also find human resources contact info for arena jobs at the Lucas County Arena official site (link above) by selecting 'Arena Jobs' from the menu on the top left.

Best of luck! That will be one fun and exciting place to work!

    Angie
