LuAnn de Lesseps blames this for low 'RHONY' ratings

After five seasons on "The Real Housewives of New York City" as a starring housewife, LuAnn de Lesseps decided to step back for season six, reducing her role to that of a "friend of the housewives." As it happens, the ratings for season six haven't been as high as the show's producers would like and certainly not as high as seasons past. Does LuAnn think that her reduced screen time has caused less people to tune in?

Hardly. In an interview with Radar Online, posted on Monday, May 19, LuAnn gave the reason for why she thinks the show's ratings have been lower this season. According to her, it doesn't have anything to do with the cast. Neither her reduced role nor the presence of Aviva Drescher, Carole Radziwill and Heather Thomson, who joined in season five, and new housewife Kristen Taekman are to blame. LuAnn said that it's simply because the show was off the air for so long so it took people longer to get back in the show.

As LuAnn points out, there was a big hiatus in between season five and season six. "Real Housewives" shows from other cities ended their previous seasons later that the New York City show but started their new seasons while the New York City show remained in the dark. "They kept their momentum going. We kind of lost our momentum for a moment," LuAnn said. She pointed out that as the season has gone on, the ratings have increased. She's optimistic that it'll continue to climb.

LuAnn also revealed that viewers may very well see her holding an apple again on the opening credits of "The Real Housewives of New York City." She said that she's "open" to making a full-time return to the show. Since she said that she scaled back her role on the show because she wanted to concentrate on other business opportunities, including launching her new clothing line, perhaps she will indeed come back once things settle down a bit?

Two women who will certainly be happy to see LuAnn de Lesseps return, especially if she replaces Aviva Drescher, are Carole Radziwill and Heather Thomson. The two recently tweeted that they would love to see LuAnn make a comeback and for Aviva to be permanently gone.
