Luísa Maita and Clarice Assad to homage Jobim & others at Jazz At Lincoln Center

Acclaimed songstresses Luísa Maita and Clarice Assad present their take on a vast repertoire of Brazilian Music with Beyond Jobim: New Voices of Brazil tonight and tomorrow, at the Lincoln Center (Broadway at W 60th st., 212-258-9800).

The spectacle flows through the opuses of the late, great composer supreme Tom Jobim as they also flirt with and perform other standards from the Brazilian songbook, mostly Samba and Bossa Nova, genres long attached to Brazil's musical identity that were immortalized by the works of Jobim and fellows such as Pixinguinha, Vinícius de Moraes, Chico Buarque and many, many others.

Luísa Maita is no strange to Bossa Nova nor Samba. Rather, she's made a name for herself singing both styles - among others - with such grace and talent it won her an award as Best New Artist at the 22nd annual Brazilian Music Awards. Young both at heart and age, Luisa offers a modern approach to those genres whilst remaining deeply rooted in their origins.

Drawing inspiration from household names like Villa-Lobos and Hermeto Pascoal, Clarice Assad is an all around, multi-talented, virtuoso pianist and bold composer. She adds visionary interpretations and a reflective inquietude of the soul inherent to any and all amazing performances.

The shows happen tonight (Fri. March 22) and tomorrow (Sat. March 23), with two sets on each day, at 7pm and 9:30pm. You can purchase tickets here.
