The February meeting of the LOWER TRINITY VALLEY BIRD CLUB will be held on, Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at The FLNB Corner (1822 Sam Houston Av, Liberty, TX) across for the First Liberty National Bank. Directions: from Hwy. 90, turn north on Travis St. (between Kentucky Fried Chicken and Whataburger), cross over the railroad tracks- The FLNB Corner is at the intersection of Sam Houston Ave. and Travis St. Be sure to come early at 9:30 a.m. for our “Birder’s Chat” time. Our speaker for February will be Carlton Collier, a LTVBC member and adventurer. His presentation will be: A Philippine Island Birding Expedition.
A native Houstonian, Carlton Collier, has been afflicted with the passion for nature and its animal life. Growing up, he began traveling to locations where he could experience new species in their element. Birding has been his primary purpose for these forays along with experiencing vastly different cultures. So far, he has traveled to 45 different countries primarily for the wildlife.
The presentation will be over Carlton’s exploits on his last trip to the Philippine Islands where the experience resulted in finding a newly discovered species of owls and various unique and hard to find birds. As well as seeing new birds and other interesting wildlife, the country itself was explored and discovering wonderful scenery and interesting culture.
