The LSU volleyball team will open the 2013 season by hosting the Tiger Classic this weekend in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on the LSU campus according to an announcement by LSU Sports on Thursday, August 29, 2013.
Playing in the Classic along with the LSU Tigers are Texas-San Antonio, UC Davis, and San Diego State. All games will have free admission throughout the weekend.
The Tigers will kick off the Classic on Friday at 7:00 p.m. against Texas-San Antonio. On Saturday the Tigers will face UC Davis at 10:00 a.m. and a match against San Diego State on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
The Tiger volleyball team has an excellent record for opening weekends, winning 12 out of 13 since the year 2000.
The LSU volleyball team is coached by Fran Flory who has been leading the Tiger volleyball team for the past 15 years.
This year's team includes some talented new blood on the team and five returning starters. Helen Boyle, Desiree Elliot, and Malorie Pardo will be Tigers to watch, as they all three have earned All-SEC honors during their careers.
Desiree Elliot is looking to break a record in career kills this weekend. She is only 7 kills away from passing the school record of 1,000 kills.
Each game will be broadcast live on the Geauz Zone for fans not in the Baton Rouge area.
