The LSU Tigers will be without senior quarterback, Zach Mettenberger in post-season bowl play due to a torn ACL from an injury in the LSU-Arkansas game. The news of Mettenberger's injury was leaked late Tuesday afternoon (Dec. 3) by ESPN.

Mettenberger was hit mid-way through the 4th quarter of the game against Arkansas by Bryan Jones. Although his knee was protected by a brace that Mettenberger has been wearing throughout the season, the hit to the knee was enough to cause some serious damage.

LSU went on to win the game against the Razorbacks with a score of 31-27 thanks to backup quarterback Anthony Jones leading the way with a 99 yard scoring drive. Jennings is expected to be the starter for the bowl game.

Mettenberger ends his career at LSU as an outstanding quarterback and one of three who have thrown for over 3,000 yards in one season. He threw 22 touchdowns during this season and led the Tigers to nine wins.

Coach Les Miles had this to say about Mettenberger after the game with Arkansas, “He enjoyed his time here tremendously. He has grown and matured. And he is a quality man, and he has fully enjoyed his time at LSU.”

Mettenberger's injury may drop his status in the 2014 NFL draft if he has any complications following surgery for the torn ACL. He was expected to be drafted on the first round according to analysts.

LSU has yet to confirm the injury, but is expected to call a press conference later today.
