LSU gymnastics No. 2 in first national poll of the season

The LSU gymnastics team landed a No. 2 spot in the GymInfo national rankings released on Monday, Jan. 13 after setting a new high record in their season opener last Friday night.

The Tigers have not been ranked this high in the national poll since 2005. Pre-season rankings put the Tigers at No. 5.

The LSU gymnastics team opened the season Friday night against Centenary and came off with a season high score of 197.200.

Several gymnasts took top rankings, with Rheagan Courville taking the top spot landing the No. 1 spot in the all-around for the second time in her career. Courville captured the No. 1 all-around spot last year after the season opener. Courville scored 39.600 against Centenary.

Jessie Jordan, a junior on the team, is ranked No. 3 in the all-around. Jordan captured a career high score in the meet between Centenary with a final score of 39.500.

The Tigers looked good on individual event rankings also. The Tigers are ranked No. 2 on the vault, No. 3 on the balance beam, No. 3 on the floor exercise and No. 10 on bars.

Other Tigers ranking on individual events are Sarie Morrison who is tied for No. 3 on bars, and No. 4 on vault; Jessica Savona is tied for No. 9 on floor; Britney Ranzy No. 17 on bars and No. 18 on vault; and Ashleigh Gnat No. 18 on beam and No. 22 on floor.

The Tigers will be on the road to face No. 9 Georgia this Friday for the Southeastern Conference opener at the Stegeman Colliseum. The meet starts at 6:25 p.m. and live audio will be available at LSU Sports.
