If you have the chance to spend the day at Lowry Park Zoo be prepared for a very good time. Not only is the park known for its efforts in manatee rehabilitation, it is also home to a wide variety of wildlife, some endangered.
For an inside view of just what you can see while visiting the park, check out their video for a glimpse of some of the wildlife, birds, reptiles and manatees you'll have the opportunity to observe while visiting the park.
There's plenty to do including rides, shows, exhibits, a 15-minute safari ride that takes you behind-the scenes or take the River Odyssey EcoTour down the Hillsborough River for an upclose view of turtles, manatees, hawks and herons.
Be sure to stop by the interactive exhibits where you can feed the giraffes and white rhinos, be surrounded by colorful lorikeets and budgies in the aviary, pet and feed the goats, touch a stingray or take a ride atop a very tall camel.
For refreshment, there are several restaurants inside the zoo from burgers, bbq and hotdogs to salads, pizzas and specialty coffees. If you want to have a picnic in the park area across from Lowry Park along the river, be sure to have your hand stamped before you exit so you can reenter the park once you've had lunch.
The park is open daily except Thanksgiving and Christmas from 9:30am to 5pm. Be sure to check their calendar for upcoming nightly events throughout the holiday season.
