A preliminary agreement on common principles for a portion of an immigration reform bill has been reached between business and labor leaders.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the AFL-CIO, had been working for weeks on a proposal at a request of a group of Democratic and Republican senators working to settle in the specifics of a process to legalize about 11 million undocumented immigrants. The agreement accomplished addresses a system on how to bring future flows of lower skilled immigrant workers.
The common principles include a mechanism to ease the hiring process of foreign workers when Americans aren't available to fill jobs, including a new type of worker visa program that does not keep all workers in a permanent temporary status.
The group has agreed on several principles that they've issued in a joint news release.
