Lower paid workers hope for minimum wage boost

Cecilia Blank is hoping that President Barack Obama's promise to raise the minimum wage to $9 an hour is fulfilled.

"I work at a fast food restaurant in Miami. Believe me the money I make at just above minimum wage is hardly enough to cover even my most basic expenses. And I hoping to one day become a nurse so I can earn a decent income," said Blank.

John Planchard, a Miami resident agrees. He earns just above the minimum wage at a department store in Miami. "I think minimum wage should be a lot higher. We work so hard and top executives make most of the money. I don't think that is fair," said Planchard.

Bryan Holmes disagrees. He owns a restaurant in Miami and does not believe in minimum wage. "I don't think the government should dictate what employers must pay workers. I think the wage a worker makes should be between the worker and the employer," said Holmes.
