A Michigan witness driving along N. Straits Highway near Topinabee became scared after watching "a dull-looking metallic object with a rectangular shape" with eight bluish-white lights silently hovering just above nearby trees, according to September 25, 2011, testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
The witness slowed down to get a better look, but became frightened after considering "that this object was not any type of conventional craft."
"I drove away at a higher than normal rate of speed and lost sight of the object," the witness stated.
Topinabee is an unincorporated community in Mullett Township about 13 miles southwest from Cheboygan on the southwest shore of Mullett Lake. No photos or videos were included with the MUFON report, which was filed on September 25, 2011. The events occurred on September 21, 2011. The above quotes were edited for clarity.
Michigan is a current UFO ALERT 3 rating, with a high number of UFO sightings nationally. Michigan had 44 reports in August 2011 - the 6th highest reporting state - while California had 127 UFO reports - the highest reporting state in the nation.

MI, September 21, 2011 - Nighttime UFO sighting above trees near Topinabee, Michigan. MUFON Case # 32077.
On September 21st 2011, around 10:30pm, I was driving home to Gaylord from work in Cheboygan on N. Straits Highway. I was passing through the town of Topinabee when I saw strange lights just above the treetops, ahead and to my left. I slowed then stopped to get a better look.
I saw a dull looking metallic object with a rectangular shape. It had 8 blueish-white lights arranged in 2 rows. It also had 1 dominant red light at the front of one of the long sides. It just hovered above the trees, no movement, no sound.
After observing this for a short time I became scared when I realized that this object was not any type of conventional craft. I drove away at a higher than normal rate of speed and lost sight of the object. The next day as I drove to work during the day, I looked for the object or anything it could have been. I saw no lights, no buildings, only trees. Nothing that could explain what I saw.
