As an animal rescue professional, I frequently receive calls from individuals who ask me to take in litters of puppies and kittens. When questioned, they say they put off getting their pets spayed and neutered because of the cost of surgery. By the time they call me the pets have often had one or more litters.
To help pet owners find lower cost options , I have compiled this up-to-date list of lower cost spay/neuter options available to Kansas City area pet owners.
I advise that all pets be altered by 4 months of age to prevent "accidental" litters. Pets just out of infancy can come into "season" and become pregnant.
Spay and Neuter is not only good for population control , but altering your pets can be benefical to their future health. The spaying and neutering of pets can also reduce the incidence of hormone related diseases, such as mammaary and prostrate cancers in pets.
If you have pets that have not yet been "fixed"- consider calling today to make an appointment at one of these clinics. Please be prepared to answer questions about your finances. Some, not all, of the clinics may require proof of financial need.
In contacting these clinics and organizations be mindful that they are often very busy with volunteers anawering the phones. You may need to leave a message and wait for a call-back.
