This past Monday our country paid tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in honor of his birthday. The legacy that Dr. King has left behind is one that will not soon be forgotten.

On January 21, 2013 the Ashe Cultural Arts Center hosted the opening reception for "Loving Your Enemies," the 15th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Art Exhibition. The exhibit celebrates the life and work of Dr. King, the Civil Rights Movement, and others who are working to promote peace and human understanding. It features the work of both local and national artists.

The mission of the Ashe Cultural Arts Center is to "use art and culture to support community development." It's an initiative of Efforts of Grace, Inc., which "creates and supports programs, activities, and creative works emphasizing the contributions of people of African descent." Ashe provides opportunities for art presentations and artist support, community development, and the creation of partnerships that promote outreach efforts. Ashe has also acted as a community based center for ReBuild New Orleans during post Hurricane Katrina recovery.
