Loving by Karen Kingsbury Book Cover
Karen Kingsbury

The book Loving by Karen Kingsbury is the fourth and last book in a series titled The Bailey Flannigan Series. This book has really changed the way I perceive things in my life and I liked how the book brought a different perspective of the events that were happening throughout the novel. There are a number of quotes that have spoken to me while reading this novel. The page numbers for these quotes have been taken from the Kindle edition of the book.

  1. "The next time — if God allowed a next time in her life — the guy would pursue her. Like Bailey’s mom had said: “Like a dying man goes after water in a desert.” Until then, she was content to be lonely." (Kingsbury, pg.44)
  2. "keep praying. Not only that God would give her contentment in her loneliness, but that He might work a miracle in her life. So that someday, somehow, someone might love her." (Kingsbury, pg.44)
  3. "“Here it is. ‘In his heart, a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.’”" (Kingsbury, pg.52)
  4. "God remained. All things might change. Love could come and go and friendships could fade. But God stayed. It was the truth that kept her company on the loneliest nights." (Kingsbury, pg.151)
  5. "“This is earth, Molly. Jesus promised we’d have trouble on earth.” He sighed, hating the reality of that truth. “But He also promises that He has overcome the world.”" (Kingsbury,pg.164)
  6. "When you ask God to show you something, keep your eyes open. Sooner or later He’ll make the truth known." (Kingsbury,pg.241)
  7. "My daughter … your ways are not My ways. Do not be anxious … I am with you." (Kingsbury,pg.243)
  8. "She’d heard their pastor say that Christians should set out to be missionaries whatever their career choice. Missionaries on a bus or in a classroom or at a doctor’s office. Bailey agreed fully." (Kingsbury,pg.292)
  9. "“Mine is from Ephesians, chapter four.” She read the verse slowly, each word speaking straight to Bailey’s heart. Especially the last part: “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ, God forgave you.”" (Kingsbury,pg.301)
  10. "It’s from Colossians, the third chapter.” She looked at her card. “Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”" (Kingsbury,pg.302)
  11. "1 Corinthians 13 — The Love Chapter. “Love is patient; love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.”" (Kingsbury, pg.316)
  12. "“You’ve always been the best mom. My best friend.”" (Kingsbury,pg.318)
  13. "“Raising you has been one of my life’s greatest gifts.”" (Kingsbury,pg.318)
  14. "“He pursued you like a dying man in the desert goes after water.”" (Kingsbury,pg.319)
