Lovely vs. Questionable Fashions at the SAG Awards (Photos)

On Sunday, January 27, the stars of tv and film walked the red carpet at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles for the Screen Actors’ Guild (SAG) Awards. There were many lovely gowns to be seen, but there were also a good amount of questionable choices on some of the actresses. Check out the slideshow attached to this article for photos of all the gowns discussed in the following paragraphs.

Let’s start with the good:

Jessica Pare’s forest green dress was nothing extravagant, but it looked lovely on her and was complimented well by her make-up, hair, and dangling stone earrings. Nicole Kidman’s tall frame was stunning in a fitted black mesh dress accented with all-over embroidery and blue crystals. Amanda Seyfried was also a vision in blue; a strapless gown with dramatic, layered trumpet skirt. Sarah Hyland looked polished in a strapless purple-patterned column gown. Rose Byrne stood out for being charmingly different – she wore a flowery pattern in blush tones that had a chiffon ruffle flowing down each side. Sofia Vergara and Kerry Washington were both beautiful in white gowns. Jennifer Garner wore a strapless dress covered in gold sequins – nothing we haven’t seen before, but still pretty.

And onto the Questionable or just plain Bad fashion choices:

Claire Danes’ black jersey gown looked rather drab and boring, and her dark maroon lipstick did not compliment her complexion at all. Julianne Moore wore a white dress that was half-decorated with black flowers and had a deep-v neckline that made me want to put a push-up bra on her. Anne Hathaway’s dress wasn’t terrible, but her full skirt made of layers of stiff see-through material was not the most flattering on her figure. Sigourney Weaver wore a black silk dress that was ill-fitting, and like Julianne Moore, screamed for proper chest support. Sally Field wore a purple dress that looks like a bad prom dress from the ‘90s. The worst offender was Jenna Elfman, who wore a confusing see-through black dress with high center-slit that looked like it might make better curtains than a gown.

Awards shows’ red carpets are always a fun fashion-watching night. This year’s SAG Awards gave us a lot of good, but also more bad fashion than we usually see at high profile events. Enjoy the slideshow!
