Lovely produce, tasty baked goods, and more at Broken Arrow farmers' market

The weather was cool and cloudy at the farmers’ market in Broken Arrow and attendance was very low at first, but as the morning progressed, both the weather and the attendance warmed up a little. This first official weekend of fall brings with it the promise of beautiful days and a countdown to the holidays, but sadly, it also means that there are only three weeks left for this year’s farmers’ market.

Several of the regular vendors were absent today, but the ones who were there offered fantastic local produce, stunning, hand-crafted birdbaths, whimsical flowers made from recycled plastic bottles, organic skin care products, scrumptious Greek food, goat cheese, aloe vera plants and more

This week’s produce included peaches, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, radishes, carrots and much more. Gone were the berries, but big, beautiful watermelons still filled the back of a pickup.

This week’s featured vendor is Robbin’s Farm Bakery and Catering, located near Cookson OK, which is close to Tenkiller Lake in eastern Oklahoma. Owner Carol Robbins has always had a passion for baking. According to her son, Jimmy, she turned that passion into a business two or three years ago.

Although Carol specializes in her beautiful baked goods, her company offers full service catering for events around the Cookson area. Barbecued chicken and brisket, including all of the traditional sides like coleslaw and baked beans are some of their offerings. For more information about their menu or to schedule an event, call them at (918) 457-5023 or (918) 453-7980.

Canyon Ridge Farms proudly announces their newest flavor of superb goat cheese. Mocha flavored goat cheese is the perfect balance of coffee and chocolate. Just think of the possibilities. Not only would it be simply divine spread on a graham cracker or eaten straight out of the container, it would also be delicious in desserts as well. Keep reading over the next week or two for recipe ideas.

If you have yet to visit the market this year, you are truly missing out on a great experience and the opportunity to help show support for local growers and other area vendors. The last day for this year’s market will be Saturday, October 15. The market is open on Saturdays only from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. and is located at 418 South Main in the beautiful outdoor pavilion.
