It's that time of year where street vendors and Farmer's Markets crop up across our city. One to watch for is Lovely Day Farmer's Market, nestled in the old shady crook of Shartel , just off Old Route 66. (NW 23rd) on the West side of the Paseo District. The proper street address is 2616 North Shartel Avenue in Oklahoma City.
It is one of many Farmer's Markets in Oklahoma. http://okfarmandfood.org/wp-content/themes/OKFarmandFood/documents/BFBL/...
The old headstone cutter's cottage is the focal point for the market, and vendors spray across the lawn in various booths come Spring.
Lovely Day Farmer's Market vends art, personal products and jewelry inside the cottage. Outside the cottage are crafts, produce, plants and various other handmade items.
A couple of methods are used to decided who will vend and what will be sold. One is by determining the use of booth space and if there is space available at all! Slots go quickly.
Booths are still available and an exact start date has not been determined for this year's market given the finicky weather. Space is leased in advance for $10 weekly for a 10 x10 booth for at least an 8 week series. Persons leasing the day of opening will pay $25 per week for 8 weeks. There is a discount for students and Senior Citizens. Contracts must be signed and fees paid at the time of contract. Persons seeking to vend must have a peddler's permit, in addition to the fee, which must also be presented at the time of contract.Contact Lovely Day janinokmulgee@yahoo.com or by calling (405) 521-9947, owner Janice Montgomery.
"We want the neighbors to have confidence in our products and items sold, and so we only accept vendors who can commit to the whole 8 weeks." " We want our market and our products to have longevity in the eyes of the buyer... so they will want to bring their families and their dollars back to be with us." said Ms. Montgomery.
Ms. Montgomery continued: "We reserve the right to refuse to sell too many of the same items, but for example we do offer two kinds of soap even now. One soap is medicated, it is for medicinal or for healing. The other soap it smells good... made of flowers and herbs."
"We want things that people want, and we want to be able to sell it around our kids, so nothing dirty," Ms. Montgomery concluded.
Ms. Montgomery noted: "Our start date was this Tuesday..... We decided to wait to open the Lovely Day Farmer's Market... because the weather is just not good." "We want everyone to be able to start, and to come and we want to be open every day we are supposed to be." "We want our customers and our vendors to be comfortable coming out".
Lovely Day Farmer's Market is a place of art, education, fresh goods and cooking. It is open Tuesday through Friday 3:30p until 7:30p and Saturday from 10am until 2pm for at least 8 weeks every Spring and typically runs through Summer and then the Fall.
