Like so many musicians - and people here of all walks of life - the members of Lovedrug aren’t native Nashvillians. The band actually had its first roots when founder and lead vocalist Michael Shepard went away to film school in NYC, with the intent of getting away from music. Once back in his native Ohio, Shepard put together the first incarnation of Lovedrug.
The band has released 3 albums since 2004, and toured extensively in Europe, Asia, and the U.S. The band in its current state consists of Michael Shepard on vocals, guitar, and piano; Jeremy Michael Gifford on lead guitar and piano; Thomas Bragg on bass; and James Childress on percussion. In the years since this lineup first came together, they’ve written and released 3 EP’s. Their newest album, Wild Blood, will be released March 6th.
Lovedrug took most of 2010 off to write for the new record. They had been coming down to Nashville for some time already - to write, record, and play - and decided to make the next record in Music City. The men of Lovedrug moved south in early 2011, and began work with producer Paul Moak on what would become Wild Blood. The entire album was recorded live to analog tape, as an ode to the grunge sound.
To hone their skills even further, they are doing a 4-week residency at 12th & Porter leading up to the album release. To challenge themselves on their upcoming tour, they want to be able to play any request out of their catalog at any time. So, each show of their residency will focus on one of their previous 3 albums, with the last one on March 6th focusing on the new album being released that day.
Each show also has a great opening act:
February 14th
The Kopecky Family Band
February 21st
House of Heroes and Ocean is Theory
February 28th
The Wans
March 6th
The Honeymoon Thrillers and Modoc
The shows kick off at 7:30pm each Tuesday. Tickets are $10 per show, or $30 for all four shows. For tickets, visit Ticketweb.
