Lucille Ball once stated “Love yourself first and everything else falls into line.” In my opinion, this statement is quite true. So many people have low self-esteem, low self-value, and low self-worth. Those of us (and I can include myself in this lump sum) do not stand up for our own self far enough. We resign ourselves to belittling the importance of our thoughts, our words, our work, and what we have to offer the world. Perhaps we do this out of not accepting our true, authentic selves. Until we can take who we are, for what and where we are, then we will never be able to love ourselves. If we do not love ourselves, then we will not truly be freed to love others as deeply, wholly, or as passionately as we may wish. Life has a way of giving us lessons and ways of kicking us when we are down. The key is to embrace ourselves with love. Then we can learn those lessons or stand back up when we get down. So on this Valentine’s Day (or any other day for that matter), when we focus on loving others…don’t forget to love yourself too!
