A couple of qualifiers first: are you going to Berlin, Germany; do you appreciate modern, comfortable design in the places you stay; do you love going to the zoo? If those fit you, you’re going to love Design Hotel’s Das Stue, which opened in December 2012.
Once the home of the Royal Danish Embassy, Das Stue’s 70 rooms, 10 suites and public areas are all beautifully appointed with contemporary furnishings and colors. The original 1930’s structure meshes well with the new addition. This boutique hotel boasts a restaurant with a Michelin-starred chef, a 2,800 square-foot spa, a 46-foot indoor pool, gym, and a concierge staff that will arrange for any type of entertainment or activity.
Yet Das Stue’s best amenity for you zoo lovers is the location: the Berlin Zoo is right across the street. It is said to be the most visited zoo in Europe and along with the aquarium drew more than 3 million visitors in 2012. With around 20,000 animals covering 1,500 species, your favorite animal is sure to be there. In fact, this zoo has animal celebrities: Knut the polar bear and Bao Bao the Giant Panda.
Das Stue is close to both airports and sits amid a neighborhood called Tiergarten, which used to be the hunting grounds for the city’s royalty.
