Tuesday night in Des Moines is highlighted by two concerts featuring great singer/songwriters. Here are the details.
First at 6:30 p.m., Vaudeville Mews will host Love Over Gold. Love Over Gold is a collaboration between Iowa native Pieta Brown and Australian songwriting sensation Lucie Thorne. The two met during Brown's first tour of Australia in 2011, and they recorded the album here in Iowa. Brown's last solo album, Mercury, was named the "#1 Folk Album of 2012" by the Roots Music Radio Report. Thorne's 2009 release, Black Across the Field, was shortlisted for the prestigious Australian Music Prize and awarded "Best Roots Album of 2009" by the Sydney Morning Herald. The duo's collaboration, entitled Fall to Rise, came out earlier this month, and both artists have new albums due out in early 2014. The show at the Mews will kick off with a performance by Des Moines' Lucca Soria. Doors for the all ages show are at 6 p.m., and there will be a $12 cover charge.
Then, at 8 p.m., Wooly's will host Oklahoma-born singer/songwriter Ben Rector. Rector is touring in support of his August 20 release The Walking In Between. As an indie artist, Rector had songs from previous albums selected for use on episodes on Castle, Pretty Little Liars, One Tree Hill, The Neighbors and even Sportscenter. Rector's latest release is the first on his own self-started record label Aptly Named Recordings. California-based rock/pop/soul act Tyrone Wells will open the Wooly's show. Doors for this all ages concert will open at 7 p.m. Tickets for the show are $18, and they may be purchased at the Wooly's box office or online through Ticketfly.
